some scattered thoughts about the granting or denial of privileges of service as a control mechanism:.
this method of persuasion involving reward or punishment is so deeply ingrained in watchtower function, it is second nature.
although sometimes subtle, sometimes blatant, everyone from new bible study to traveling overseer is subconsciously aware of the possible limiting of his official opportunities to serve god and his brothers.. .
Interestingly, FS is never used as a carrot.
No matter how far demoted you are, you can always go into field service (unless DF).
Put on restrictions? No answering for you during the meetings, so you can improve your spiritual health. Uh...how is that going to help?
Now if they said: you're on restrictions, no FS for you, use that time to work on your spiritual health instead...that might make sense.
Are you a (seemingly) 'repentant' pedo? No mic roving of reading paragraphs for you, because you might be dangerous.
But you can go out in FS and meet all kinds of nice young people to witness to.
FS must always go on. New recruits and their money are needed...
what were some of the derogatory things you heard or said about house holders?
.
i was taught that if they didn't answer the door & you knew they were in it was always that they had a guilty conscience..
An elderly sister, anointed, a little weird (somehow most anointed are?), was out doing street witnessing.
She approached a disabled man in a wheelchair. Of course she told him about paradise, where even the lame would leap like deer. He politely expressed his lack of interest.
"Well, just keep sitting in your wheelchair then, if you like that so much!"....
i mean this with all due respect, i would like to hear from genuine people who think jw have it wrong and then what is the truth?.
im not talking about silly little quibbles here and there.. is jehovah real?
the the bible is word?
I don't really get why someone would need to know the truth, before being able to recognise and reject bullsh*t.
Example: I have a transparent elephant in my living room.
Does that sound true to you?
Do you really need to know whether the elephant is actually in my garden, or not transparent, or a rabbit?
Or maybe it's a complete lie?
Just reject the bullsh*t already!
No need for an alternative explanation first...
That you don't know (your new version of) truth yet, does not mean the bullsh*t is true, trueish, or worth adhering to.
Now the cult mantra 'where else would we go?' assumes you'll go anywhere.
But actually when rejecting Watchtower dogma does not make you go anywhere.
You'll be the same person in the same life, but with a different pastime (and likely different friends).
There's plenty of time to research and try whatever you want to find 'somewhere to go' if you want that (without the fear of being dfed for reading wrong materials, visiting wrong churches, etc)

In my safe European country without any persecution issues, KH Doors are normally locked during meetings for as long as I can remember.
John 20:19 is used as the basis for this.
well, well, that was quite a heartfelt welcome on this site four days ago.
thank you all for the encouraging replies.
one of them was this one from magnum: "hey now, don't just pop your head in and disappear.
Yup, the dissenting stories flow once they feel it's safe.
For some of my friends I'm still wondering why the hell they are still in.
They agree it's a failing Borg, shit everywhere, with no evidence for a God, and the Bible is a erroneous human book.....but it's still the truth.... WTF?
Thanks for sharing :-)
given recent posts on the forum and discussion, maybe we could play this game: would i lie to you?
in the uk we have this tv programme where minor celebrities tell weird or embarrassing stories about themselves and the rest of the participants have to guess if it is a true story or made up.
when the others have voted then the person reveals if the story is true or false.
Listener,
I'll comment after I have doen my next Would I Lie To You....
i've studied and observed several lottery patterns.
this one is now gone so nothing lost by revealing it.
i had a certain history search and noticed that almost each week the past few months a list of numbers not used recently were being used 1 per week.
EOM,
So, you picked those numbers right once?
You know that happens a lot actually? Lotteries tend to be won by someone who guessed the correct numbers once ;-)
Anyway, just pick them correct 20 times in a row, and you might be on to something.

For my stories, everybody wins. They are both true.
Why not one lie?
I don't play the game by their rules anymore ;-)
Also I couldn't think of a lie.
And yes, I was ashamed of taken the WWW donation money. I was like 14 at the time. It was a really small amount, and I added it to my regular donations years later. Looking back, I should have kept all of it :-p
I'll add more stories later....
